Baseball fans, allies, and the LGBT community stepped up to the plate for Equality Illinois' (EI) baseball kickoff event at Sluggers in Wrigleyville March 31.
For a $10 donation, guests enjoyed light eats and two cocktails, and could participate in the raffle drawing. Raffle items included baseball tickets and baseball memorabilia in honor of the baseball season.
Baseball Prospectus co-founding member and managing editor Christina Kahrl made an appearance at the event and arrived with good news: She recently joined ESPN's baseball editorial team, where she will contribute to the company's blog and night coverage. As a transgender person, Kahrl sees her new position as a step in the right direction.
"It seems like its 500 miles between Wrigleyville and Halsted Street but this event proves otherwise, as an exercise in cultural diplomacy. We all have a lot more in common and we all like baseball," said Kahrl. Photos and text by Terrence Chappell
