Horizons Community Services has hired a full time Domestic Violence Counselor to its Anti Violence Project, which addresses issues of violence and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.
K.J. Jackson joins the Horizons staff in the newly created Domestic Violence/Care Manager position, which is being funded with a $79,000 grant from the Illinois Criminal Justice Information Authority.
Jackson will provide individual short term counseling and care management services to men and women who have been or are currently in a relationship involving domestic violence.
Additionally, Jackson will provide legal and medical advocacy for survivors of domestic violence, assistance in applying for victim compensation, and education about LGBT related dating and domestic violence issues to the community. LGBT Domestic Violence Counseling and Support Groups are also planned to begin at Horizons in June.
"I'm thrilled to have K.J. as part of the AVP team at Horizons," stated Lisa Tonna, Horizons' Director of Information and Referral.
