Dining news: Steak Month, Glenfiddich's Project XX, 4th of July

—Michael Jordan's Steak House, 505 N. Michigan Ave., is celebrating National Steak House Month, and Executive Chef Craig Couper is debuting the Captain's menu, a monthlong celebration of rare cuts. A couple of the cuts include The Cowgirl ( 18-oz. Iowa Premium USDA 40-day, dry-aged "ribeye filet," priced at $49 ) and the Tomahawk ( 36-oz. Slagel Farms Long Bone 45-day, dry-aged cut; $89 ).

—Glenfiddich announced the U.S. launch of the next iteration of the Glenfiddich Experimental Series: Project XX ( SRP: $79.99 ). Described as "a spicy and complex dram with depth and a smooth finish," the single-malt Project XX is the result of a collaboration between 20 whisky experts and Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman.

—On Fourth of July weekend, guests can enjoy Chango Loco's patio ( at 600 E. Grand Ave. ), with seating for 80 guests. Located next to Navy Pier's Crystal Gardens, Chango Loco offers views of Navy Pier, Lake Michigan and the city skyline along with Mexican favorites like nachos, tacos and carne asada, and specialty drinks.

—For the Fourth of July, 20 East, 20 E. Delaware Pl., offers a red, white and blue ice box cake ( $9 ): strawberry cake topped with vanilla whipped cream, studded with fresh raspberries and blueberries, and served with a sparkler. The ice box cake is available July 1-4. Reservations can be made by calling 312-944-4970 or via OpenTable.

—Jake Melnick's Corner Tap, 41 E. Superior St., will mark the Fourth of July with wings and beer. Jake's will be offering $3 Surly 'Merica cans ( 12 ounces ) with the purchase of a basket of Firecracker Wings ( $12.95 ). Also, for National French Fry Day ( July 13 ), all specialty fry baskets will be $5.

—Watch Navy Pier's Fourth of July fireworks from the John Hancock Center at The Signature Room. The spot, located on the 95th floor, along with the Lounge on the 96th floor, are open on Tuesday, July 4, during regular business hours. The Signature Room is open 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. and dinner 5-10 p.m.; The Signature Lounge is open 11-12:30 a.m. Reservations are strongly recommended for the restaurant and can be made by calling 312-280-0465. The Lounge does not accept reservations.

—Commonwealth Tavern, 2000 W. Roscoe Ave., will open at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sunday and Tuesday of Fourth of July weekend for a family-friendly brunch available until 2 p.m. Weather permitting, guests can enjoy Commonwealth's dog-friendly patio with seating for 24. Among the dishes will be the Pigmuffin ( maple pig head, farm egg, American cheese, English muffin, fries; $12 ). See CommonwealthChicago.com .

—Northfield's Happ Inn Bar & Grill, 305 Happ Rd., will mark National Fried Chicken Day on Thursday, July 6, with all-you-can-eat General Happ's Fried Chicken for $17.95 and 12-piece carry-out fried-chicken meal deal for $29.95 ( regular price $39.95 ). See HappInn.com .

—Midwestern-inspired and vegetable-/pasta-focused restaurant Daisies has opened in Logan Square at 2523 N. Milwaukee Ave. Showcasing produce grown on chef and owner Joe Frillman's brother Tim's farm specifically for the restaurant, Daisies is a member of a growing group of restaurants who have dedicated farms at their disposal. Menu items include carrot rillette, agnolotti, tortellini, sturgeon, corn-flake chicken and spring onion dip. See DaisiesChicago.com .

—George Clooney, Rande Gerber and Mike Meldman are selling their premium tequila brand Casamigos to British beverage company Diageo—reportedly for $1 billion, according to Deadline. The trio only formed four years ago, resulting in an incredible windfall.

—Prime Steak Concepts' Executive Chef Marc Lupino has announced Brian Key ( Gibson's, Weber Grill ) as local executive chef of upcoming Steak 48, 615 N. Wabash Ave., The Chicago native will take the helm of the kitchen, alongside Lupino—who leads Prime Steak Concepts' culinary program at a trio of its other steakhouses, including Dominick's Steakhouse and Steak 44 in Phoenix as well as Steak 48 in Houston. —Kizuki Ramen & Izakaya, 1482 N. Milwaukke Ave., has several summer specials and treats that are available now. For example, Kizuki will give away FREE Japanese matcha ( green tea ) soft-serve ice cream with any purchase when the temperature is 80 degrees Fahrenheit or higher. The complimentary ice cream will be available now through Tuesday, Aug. 1. Among other treats, Kizuki is offering Shochu sake-infused gummy bears for $6 and sangria popsicles for $9 each.

—Block 37's Latinicity has launched a five-week performance series Latinicity Live! in partnership with the Chicago Latin Jazz Festival. The series coincides with Latinicity's happy-hour program at 4-7 p.m. with drink specials including $5 margarita traditional, sangria roja or blanca and $3 draft beer. Each performer is on-site at the restaurant on Thursdays at 4-6 p.m. for two 45-minute sets each week in advance of the 11th annual JazzCity Chicago Latin Jazz Festival on July 14-15 in Humboldt Park.

—Square Roots, the one-of-a-kind craft beer and music experience, returns to Lincoln Square July 7-9 with more than 50 acts on 4 stages, and 30 regional craft brews paired with Lincoln Square's finest restaurants and local artisans. Presented by the Old Town School of Folk Music and the Lincoln Square Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce, the festival will feature music, dance parties, free music lessons and jams, and plenty of family-friendly activities. —The Roscoe Village Burger Fest will take place July 8-9 in Roscoe Village at Belmont and Damen avenues at 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Some of the acts slated to perform include Kongos, Marty Casey, Wedding Banned, 16 Candles and Cassettes on Tape. —The Red Balloon Co. ( 1940 N. Damen Ave., in Bucktown; 3651 N. Southport Ave., in Lake View ) will host an ice-cream social July 8, 12-2 p.m. oat the Lake View location and July 9, 12-2 p.m., at the Bucktown site.
