Joffrey opening with 'Russian Masters'
The Joffrey Ballet kicks off its 2013-14 "Masters of Dance" season with a special addition to its home engagement line-up, a one-weekend-only program titled "Russian Masters" Sept. 19-22.
"Masters" celebrates the centennial of Vaslav Nijinsky's ground-breaking 1913 ballet Le Sacre du Printemps (The Rite of Spring), alongside George Balanchine's Allegro Brillante and two works by Yuri Possokhov, the Chicago Premiere of Adagio and the return of his 2011 Joffrey commission, Bells.
The Joffrey Ballet performs "Russian Masters" Thursday-Saturday, Sept. 19-21, at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $31-$152; they're available at the Joffrey Ballet's official box office, 10 E. Lakeview arts fest
The 2013 Lakeview East Festival of the Arts will take place Sept. 14-15 on Broadway from Belmont Avenue to Roscoe Street.
The event will showcase more than 175-juried artists featuring world-class original paintings, sculpture, photography, furniture, jewelry and more. In addition to the artists' booths, the festival features two live music tents featuring some of Chicago's favorite performers, a beer and wine garden, a landscape garden oasis, interactive children's area and more.

Milwaukee Art Museum showing '30 Americans'
Running through Sept. 8, the Milwaukee Art Museum will present "30 Americans," showcasing the work of 31 contemporary African-American artists who tackle issues around race, religion, gender, sexuality and cultural identity, according to a press release.
The exhibition will show nearly 80 works of art from individuals such as Nina Chanel Abney, Nick Cave, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Shinique Smith and Carrie Mae Weems, among others.
