Comic Judy Tenuta to perform gay marriages at Laugh Factory

CHICAGO, Sept. 4, 2012 - Comedian Judy Tenuta, who recently became an ordained minister, has offered to perform free gay marriages on the stage of the new Laugh Factory Chicago as part of her 8 p.m. shows this Thursday through Saturday, Sept. 6 -8th.

Laugh Factory is located at 3175 N. Broadway, at Belmont, in Chicago's Lakeview neighborhood. Straight couples are encouraged to participate as well. To buy tickets or arrange a wedding ceremony contact Laugh Factory Chicago at LaughFactory.com or call 773.327.3175. Tickets are $25 and $34 (VIP seating) in advance; $29 at the door. There is a two drink minimum.

Tenuta, who mantra is "marriage is not about the state, it's not about the government, and I will marry them in eyes of GD," hopes to beat Sam Kinison's record of marrying 150 couples at Laugh Factory Hollywood in 1991. "It could happen!"said Tenuta, employing her often quoted comedic catch phrase.

Jamie Masada, owner of the Laugh Factory, added "So many married straight people are miserable, I don't see why gay people can't be miserable too. Why should heterosexuals have the monopoly on unhappiness?"

The happy nuptials will be followed by a standup performance by Tenuta whose outrageous comic persona has been developed through a series of TV ads for MTV, as well as HBO, Showtime and Lifetime specials which became popular and gained her a loyal following. In fact, people love her comedy so much that they convert to her self-proclaimed religion, "Judyism." The self-described "Aphrodite of the Accordion" has made hundreds of guest and co-hosting appearances on such popular TV shows as The View, Late Night with David Letterman, Larry King Live, Entertainment Tonight and Comics Unleashed. Not only was she the first female stand-up comic to win "Best Female Comedian" at the American Comedy Awards, her CDs "Attention Butt-Pirates," "In Goddess We Trust" and "Lesbetarians!" scored her two Grammy nominations.

Tenuta also has appeared in The Vagina Monologues and Menopause the Musical in Chicago and L.A. A strong advocate for gays, children and women's issues, the fun-loving feminist preaches that all women should be worshipped as "Love Goddesses!"

Note: Tenuta will also perform at 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sept. 7 and 8. All shows will include a set by director, screenwriter and creator of the original Meet the Parents, Greg Glienna. The evening's host is Bill Cruz. Note: Two drink minimum for all performances.
