A sold-out audience at the Laugh Factory Chicago April 7 saw local and out-of-town comedy and music acts perform in the first Chicago edition of the Los Angeles-based "Don't Tell My Mother" show. The event benefited IMPACT, the LGBT Health and Development Program of Northwestern University.
The show's creator, Nikki Levy, started off the night with a welcome and her own tale of telling her mom about being a lesbianor was that being a German? The Joans band did two raucous sets for the crowd, and other performers included Jayson Brooks ( a tale of finding his bio dad ), Fawzia Mirza ( bringing out her "roots" with tales of her Pakistani womanhood ), Alex Heller ( a Thanksgiving for the ages ), Fausto Fernos ( his stories from being a gigolo in Texas ), and LA's Jen Kober ( a Southern-raised Jewish lesbian who brought down the house with her Girl Scout cookie tales ).
