At its 20th annual forum, the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals ( IACP ) convened more than 430 legal, mental health and financial professionals from around the world at the Chicago Marriott Downtown Magnificent Mile.
Preceded by two full-day training intensives, the forum officially kicked off on Illinois Collaborative Practice Day ( Oct. 26 ), as declared by Gov. JB Pritzker.
IACP is an international nonprofit organization focused on transforming the way families divorce by helping them create customized solutions and stay out of court.
"Unfortunately, the reality is that the courts simply aren't ready for our LGBTQ families," said IACP Executive Director Anne Tamar-Mattis, in a statement Windy City Times obtained. "We often have unique family structures which require additional attention throughout the divorce process. At IACP, we have skilled collaborative practitioners who specialize in helping LGBT families find peaceful resolutions outside of court."
Among those attending was Julia McAninch, an IACP member and an attorney who specializes in collaborative practice for LGBTQ families seeking divorce.
Both identify as LGBTQ.
