On National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Feb. 7, Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County Dorothy Brown and employees presented the Let's Talk, Let's Test Foundation ( LTLTF ) with a $3,065 check at Daley Plaza, 50 W. Washington.
State Rep. Connie Howard, D-34th District, and Lloyd Kelly, executive director of LTLTF, accepted the donation, which was made possible through contributions made by the clerk's office employees.
Howard established LTLTF to raise awareness and to take action towards the AIDS epidemic in the Illinois African-American community. For the past four years, the clerk's office has partnered with LTLTF to raise funds for the organization.
'HIV/AIDS is something we used to ignore,' said Brown, who added that half of the AIDS patients today are African-American.
Both Kelly and Howard said that people still need to be aware of HIV/AIDS and assured Brown's office that the foundation will continue to promote HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment for the African-American community.
