Chicago Police Board President Lori E. Lightfoot announced today that the Police Board will be holding a special public meeting to receive community input on the search for a new Superintendent of Police.

Format: Community members will be given the opportunity to directly address members of the Chicago Police Board as it moves to hire a new Chicago Police Department Superintendent. To ensure that as many people as possible can participate, individuals will be given an opportunity to speak for up to two minutes per person.
"The entire Board is completely committed to hearing from the public about the qualities the next Superintendent should possess," stated President Lightfoot. "We also view this forum as an important opportunity for residents to share their experiences with the police and provide recommendations for policy priorities now and in the future," she continued.
The application material for the position of Superintendent of Police was made available on December 10, and can be found on the Police Board's website at ChicagoPoliceBoard.org .
As required by city ordinance, when there is a vacancy in the Superintendent's position, the Police Board is responsible for nominating three candidates for consideration by the Mayor.
Prospective candidates have until Friday, January 15, to apply for the position. Following a thorough review of all applications, the Board will conduct in-depth interviews of the candidates whom the Board believes are best qualified for the position. The Board will then select three finalists and, pursuant to the Municipal Code, submit the three nominees to the Mayor.
The Police Board is an independent body of citizens appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the City Council.
