CHICAGO With an 75-62 win over the Indiana Fever on Wednesday night the Chicago Sky advanced to the WNBA Finals presented by Boost Mobile for the first time in franchise history. The Sky, who finished fourth in the Eastern Conference, upset the top-seeded Atlanta Dream in the Semifinals and then the number two seed Indiana Fever in the Eastern Conference Finals to earn their first WNBA Finals appearance. The Chicago Sky will meet the Phoenix Mercury in the 2014 WNBA Finals presented by Boost Mobile.
The WNBA Finals Champion is determined in a best three-out-of-five series. The first two games are played at the home of the top seed, followed by two games ( game 4 if needed ) at the home of the lower seed. If the teams are tied at the end of four games, the fifth and final game is played at the home of the top seed.
The first game of the 2014 WNBA Finals will be held 2:30 p.m. CT on Sunday, September 7 at the US Airways Center in Phoenix, AZ. The game will air on ABC. Phoenix will host the second game of the series at the US Airways Center on Tuesday, September 9 at 8:00 pm. CT. Game two will air on ESPN. The Sky will return home to host game three of the series at the UIC Pavilion on Friday, September 12 at 7:00 p.m. CT. If necessary, the Sky will host Game 4 of the series at the UIC Pavilion on Sunday, September 14 at 4:30 p.m. CT. The final game in the series, if needed, will be held in Phoenix and is scheduled for Wednesday, September 17 at 8:00 p.m. CT.
After battling adversity throughout much of the 2014 season, the Chicago Sky won six of their final eight games to finish with an overall record of 15-19. The Phoenix Mercury finished the 2014 regular season atop the Western Conference with an overall record of 29-5, securing the record for most wins in a regular season in WNBA history. The Sky and Mercury met twice during the 2014 regular season in a ten-day span. Phoenix won both matchups against a short-handed Chicago Sky roster without Courtney Vandersloot ( knee ) and Elena Delle Donne ( Lyme disease ). This will be the first time the Sky and Mercury have met in a postseason series.
