The first-ever Chicago Meal Pack of 9/11 Day—co-hosted by Serve Illinois and the Greater Chicago Food Depository—will take place Wed., Sept. 11, 7 a.m.-7 p.m. at Union Station, 225 S. Canal St.
More than 1,000 volunteers from many organizations and backgrounds will join together to pack as many as 250,000 healthful, non-perishable meals for people in Chicago who are food-insecure.
It is one of eight significant volunteer service projects being organized in cities across the nation in observance of the anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, now a federally recognized National Day of Service and Remembrance, widely known as "9/11 Day."
Nationwide, as many as 15 million Americans are expected to participate in 2019 in tribute to the 9/11 victims, first responders, military personnel and others who rose in service in response to the attacks.
