The Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame has issued a statement on a restructuring happening at the 27-year-old organization. The Hall of Fame will be on hiatus for 2018 and is expected to return in 2019.

The Chicago LGBT Hall of Fameis "going through a period of reorganizing and reconstruction,"the board stated. Several longtime board members recently resigned, and the new board is seeking time to decide the future of the Hall of Fame. Over the summer and fall of 2018, the board will be meeting with community members and organizations to decide if a potential merger with alarger, similarly focused organization will create a more sustainable model for the Hall of Fame to survive.

The Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame is both a historic event and an exhibit that has been in the community since 1991. "This organization continues to help not only the residents of Chicago but also the world to be aware of the contributions of Chicago's lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities," board President Kathy Caldwell said. "With this being said,we as an organization are very saddened to say there will not be a Chicago LGBT Hall of Fame float in the pride parade this year, nor will we be able to conduct a proper induction ceremony for the year 2018. During our process of reorganizing and restructuring, we are also in the process of getting new members for our board. This will ensure that we have successful events in the future and that we have a fantastic induction ceremony next year in 2019."
