Jamie Fornal caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Rachel Gore on the third play from scrimmage for the Chicago Force, and the rout was on.
The Force finished its regular-season June 13 with a dominant, weather-shorted 57-0 win over the St. Louis Slam ( 6-2 ). The game was called with 5:28 remaining in the fourth quarter due to lightning.
Jeanette Gray had two touchdown receptions, while Cassey Brick scored on TD runs of 3-, 17-, and 11-yards.
The Force opens Women's Football Alliance ( WFA ) playoffs on June 27 against Cleveland, though as of press time it had not been confirmed that Chicago would host the game.
"This was a great way to end the regular-season; we really were able to perfect our craft and also mix up some things; we were able to throw some new things out there to see what worked,," said defensive end Angel Smith, who was named the Defensive Game Day MVP, an award sponsored by Spin Nightclub and DLG Management.
"I thought I played much better compared to the Boston game [on May 30]; I was a lot more focused and just out there doing what I've been trained to do."
Gore also rushed in for two touchdowns, including a 43-yard scamper, helping Chicago build a 22-0 lead after the first quarter. The Force led 42-0 at halftime.
The Force offensive line received the Offensive Game Day MVP award, also sponsored by Spin Nightclub and DLG Management. The honorees on the line include Roz Bennett, Jamie Menzyk, Dawn Pederson, Tami Engelman, Cat Converse, Leeann Bluske and Anne Witt.
"It's playoff time … the season starts now," Smith said. "We win or go home."
