The 85% Coalition in Champaign is organizing a Valentine's Day serenade in Springfield to urge legislators to support amendments to the state's human rights bill.
Put a Little Love in Your Heart and Equality in the Law is the working title of the event, which will have activists singing love songs to representatives and passing out fliers about the bill.
House Bill 101, introduced last month by openly gay state Rep. Larry McKeon, D-34th, would amend the Illinois Human Rights Act to outlaw discrimination against GLBTs in employment, housing, credit and public accommodations. The bill's former incarnation was called House Bill 474.

In other Springfield news, Equality Illinois is gearing up for its annual Lobby Day March 28, from 9:30 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Statehouse.
Equality Begins at Home 2001 will include an orientation meeting with continental breakfast, visits to legislators, a rally at noon in the capitol Rotunda, entertainment and speeches and a cocktail reception. Buses will leave the Equality Illinois office at 7 a.m. and return around 10 p.m.
