Illinois state Rep. Kelly Cassidy was recently selected to assume the role of 49th Ward committeeperson in light of now-former Ald. Joe Moore's decision to step down from the role.

In the April 2 runoff, Moore lost to queer candidate Maria Hadden.

In a statement, Cassidy said, "I want to thank Joe for his years of service and leadership to the ward and the party. ... From the moment I came to Rogers Park, the organization has made me feel like part of the family.

"Here in the 49th Ward, we've just come through a tough election and need to rebuild relationships in order to ensure that we can be as ready as we can be for the upcoming 2020 elections. I am looking forward to working closely with our incoming Alderman Maria Hadden on joint projects and to continue to grow the organization by reaching out to folks who have not had a chance to engage or maybe have moved away from the group over the years."

Cassidy and Hadden will be present for the 49th Ward's Clean and Green project, at 1447 W. Morse Ave., 8 a.m.-12 p.m. See "49th Ward 2019 Clean and Green" on Facebook.

Regarding ward-related concerns, Cassidy can be reached at ward49cassidy@gmail.com or 773-359-3512.
