Demi Lovato and Nick Jonas have left their Disney beginnings behind in exchange for a full scale Future Now Tour that arrived in Rosemont, Illinois, Aug. 2.
Opener Mike Posner got emotional talking about his mom and performed his radio hits "Please Don't Go" and "I Took a Pill in Ibiza."
Jonas began his set with "Levels." He has learned a great deal about performing from the many concerts and Broadway shows he has done in the past. His energy was catchy and, with a song like "Bacon," what is there not to like?
Lovato came out "Confident" and showed she has the pipes with "Heart Attack." "Neon Lights" used a light show straight out of the song. Her track "Lionhearted" worked especially well with a large projection of a lion in the background and Lovato belting out the lyrics. Katy Perry better watch her back!
The focus was kept on the singers with the live band buried in the back and barely visible under the stage. In the past, Lovato usually sits down at the piano for a quiet moment but instead it was Jonas who returned to the stage and did that for her rendition of "Stone Cold." She returned the favor by singing with him for his hit song "Close" ( with Tove Lo performing the duet with Jonas on his CD ).
Lovato followed Jonas with a solo set of hits like "Skyscraper" and "Give Your Heart a Break."
She closed with "Cool for the Summer" and no encore, which left the crowd a little baffled.
Afterward, Jonas made an appearance at Chicago nightclub Cuvee, on Erie Street. Windy City Times asked him why there wasn't an encore. He simply stated, "Demi and I don't like them so we didn't do it this time."
The duo continue on through Sept. 17 with dates on DemiLovato.com .
