Center on Halsted announces another By Women For Women community event! Hosted by the Women's Action Committee of Center on Halsted, By Women For Women: Art Performance Engagement will present the Community Leader Awards to Kat Fitzgerald, and Vera Washington & Patricia S. McCombs.
By Women For Women, hosted at Joffrey Tower 10 E. Randolph will feature a sensual burlesque performance by Po'chop and silent auction to benefit Affinity Community Services, featuring custom designs by LGBTQ artists Sam Kirk and Andy Bellomo, along with the presentation of awards.
"This By Women For Women event, where we come together to celebrate the leaders in our community, will be an intimate evening for LGBTQ women," said Renauda Riddle, chair of the Women's Action Committee. "Too often individuals on the forefront of advocacy are forgotten. We want to ensure that the women who work behind the scene to impact change receive the recognition they deserve."
Vera Washington & Patricia S. McCombs, both of whom have been inducted into the Chicago Gay & Lesbian Hall of Fame, are well known for their history of bringing women together for social events in a safe and affirming space. Vera and Patricia co-founded Executive Sweet, a "traveling club" for women of color. Both have also dedicated their time to many Chicago social service and LGBTQ Organizations
Kat Fitzgerald has been an integral advocate of the community for over a decade. She is known and recognized for her presence at Chicago events and offering her photography services to many LGBTQ organizations.
