Spin Nightclub, 800 W. Belmont Ave., closed its doors over Memorial Day weekend.
The longtime Boystown institution at the corner of Halsted Street and Belmont Avenue had a sign in the window that read, "Spin is closed! Thank you for all the years of great memories! See you all in a few weeks!"
ChicagoPride.com reported May 26 that employees were notified of the closing that morning, and the bar would likely reopen under the new management Pride weekend. Chicago.eater.com reported May 27 that Spin would be converted to a whiskey distillery and eatery called Whiskey Trust, set to open by the end of the month; and Chloe's, a dance club set to open by the end of the summer.
The bar's former owner, David Gassman, put the club up for sale several months ago. A listing had appeared on the website buybizsell.com, with an initial asking price of just under $1.5 million. The property's listing agent, Mike Costanzo, told DNAinfo.com in February that Gassman no longer wanted to run the nightclub and was confident that "he would get top dollar because that area is on fire."
