The Boy Scouts of America has said it will begin accepting members based on their gender identity, allowing transgender boys to join.
Previously, the organization relied on an individual's birth certificate to determine eligibility for its single-gender programs. The new policy takes effect immediately, and affects Cub and Boy scout troops.
Other youth organizations, including the Girl Scouts, have already instituted trans-receptive membership policies.
This newest development occurs a few months after an 8-year-old Cub Scout in New Jersey accused the organization of expelling him for being transgender.
