Former CAWHC board member, Marcia Walker-McWilliams, will present her new book on Chicago's great labor and women's rights activist Addie Wyatt. Co-sponsored by the Chicago Women's History Center, this event will be the final public program offered at Woodson Library before they close for a year of complete renovation.

Drawing on oral histories, interviews conducted with Wyatt's colleagues and family, personal papers and extensive archival data, Reverend Addie Wyatt is the inspiring portrait of a woman who defied injustice in its many guises. As a labor leader, civil rights activist, outspoken feminist and African American clergywoman, Reverend Addie Wyatt stood at the confluence of many rivers of change in twentieth century America.
Walker-McWilliams' important new book explores the deeply personal and moving story of Wyatt's youth, marriage to Claude Wyatt Jr., and the importance of faith in her work as an activist and as a spiritual leader in the church founded by the Wyatts, The Vernon Park Churck of God.
The program is free and open to the public. A light reception with follow. Marcia will have books to sell and sign during the reception.
This program is also co-sponsored by the Vivian G. Harsh Society, Coalition of Labor Union Women-Chicago Chapter and the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists.
