The National Hockey League is investigating after Chicago Blackhawks forward Andrew Shaw appeared to use an anti-gay slur during the team's 4-3 playoff loss to the St. Louis Blues on April 19, according to reports.
No audio picked up the slur, but cameras trained on Shaw, who was in the penalty box, suggest he exclaimed to referees, "Fuck you, fucking faggot."

After the game, according to NBC 5, Shaw was asked about the remark.
"I mean, emotions are high," he said. "I really don't know what was said, [I was] upset with the call, being that late in the game doesn't give us a chance to tie it up."
The incident comes shortly after the Blackhawks stepped up an initiative with the You Can Play Project, which addresses homophobia in sports. You Can Play Project tweeted that it was in touch with the NHL to address the incident.
"Yes, we are looking into it, and no we can't comment on it until that process is complete," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly.
