CHICAGO, April 15, 2015— Civil rights icon Bayard Rustin is one of the unsung heroes of the movement. A day-long event from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, April 25 at University Church, 5655 S. University Avenue, Chicago, is devoted to singing Rustin's praises and pondering his life and legacy.
Walter Naegle, Rustin's partner, will serve as keynote speaker. Panelists Jamie Frazier of The Lighthouse Church of Chicago, Kim L. Hunt of Affinity and Community Organizer Veronica Morris Moore will ponder his life and legacy as well as community organizing todayand tomorrow.
Other activities will include a screening of Brother Outsider, a documentary about Rustin's life. A continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Sponsors include the Bayard Rustin Society at Chicago Theological Seminary, University Church, Chicago Metropolitan Association of United Church of Christ and Affinity.
