Go Tell It on the Mountain, a 1953 book written by gay Black author James Baldwin, has been announced by Mayor Richard Daley as the next selection in One Book, One Chicago, the city's book club.
The book, which spans a single day, is set in Harlem. Among the topics it tackles are religion and racism.
Two thousand copies of the book will be available at the city's public libraries. Book discussions will be held soon. ( In fact, Gerber/Hart Library, 1127 W. Granville, will hold a book discussion on April 26 at 7 p.m. Call 773-381-8030 for more info. )
Baldwin died on Nov. 30, 1987 at age 63.
