For its first major grant funding round of fiscal year 2017, the National Endowment for the Arts ( NEA ) announced more than $30 million will be awarded to nonprofit organizations and individuals across the country for grants in the areas of Art Works, Art Works: Creativity Connects, Challenge America and Creative Writing Fellowships.
These grants cross all artistic disciplines, reach 48 states as well as Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands, and also support partnerships between the arts and non-arts sectors.
Forty-eight grants ( totaling $1.43 million ) have been recommended to Illinois organizations. A few of the grant recipients include 3Arts, Inc ( $15,000 ), Art Institute of Chicago ( $70,000 on behalf of the institute; $10,000 on behalf of the Gene Siskel Film Center ), Chicago Architecture Foundation ( $35,000 ), Chicago Filmmakers ( $25,000 ), Columbia College Chicago ( $30,000 ), Facets Multimedia Incorporated ( $65,000 ), Joffrey Ballet ( $20,000 ), Lookingglass Theatre Company ( $20,000 ), Snow City Arts Foundation ( $20,000 ) and Steppenwolf Theatre Company ( $60,000 ).
