CPL hosting John D'Emilio
At the Chicago Public Library, 400 S. State St., on Thursday, Dec. 11, noted historian John D'Emilio will present a discussion on marriage equality as he talks about his book In a New Century: Essays on Queer History, Politics and Community Life. Books will be available for purchase.
The event will take place at 6 p.m. in the Chicago Authors Room on the seventh floor. Copies of the book will be available for sale.

Singer Lisa Fischer in Chicago Dec. 8
City Winery Chicago, 1200 W. Randolph St., has announced that singer /composer Lisa FischerThe Rolling Stones' backup vocalist since 1989headlines her own show with a full band for two shows, Monday, Dec. 8, at 6:30 p.m. and 9 p.m.
Fischer, featured in the Oscar-winning 2013 documentary Twenty Feet from Stardom, has sung with Luther Vandross, Tina Turner, Chaka Khan, Beyonce, Dionne Warwick, Dolly Parton, Nine Inch Nails and many others.
In 1992, Fischer won a solo Grammy Award for Best Female R&B Performance for her single "How Can I Ease the Pain" in a tie with Patti LaBelle.

Moraine Valley presents Safier in 'Humbug!'
Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol comes to life in "Alan Safier as Scrooge…and everyone else…in Humbug! The Musical."
The one-actor musical will be presented at Moraine Valley Community College on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m. at the Dorothy Menker Theater, 9000 W. College Pkwy., Palos Hills.
Safier transforms himself right before the audience's eyes into Dickens' memorable characters: Ebenezer Scrooge; Tiny Tim; Bob Cratchit; The Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present, and Yet-to-Come; Jacob Marley; Old Fezziwig; Mrs. Cratchit; Belle; Fanny27 characters in all.
Tickets are $25 for the general public, and $20 for students and seniors.
