Andersonville brunch fixture Ann Sather, 5207 N. Clark Street, is closing doors this winter.
Tom Tunney, openly gay 44th Ward alderman and Ann Sather owner, announced the sale of the restaurant Aug. 15 in a press release.
"After careful consideration, I decided to consolidate our Andersonville-area restaurants at our newest location at 1147 West Granville," Tunney said in the statement. "To ensure an orderly transition, I negotiated leasing back the restaurant through the end of the year."
The restaurant's three other locations will continue operations. The Andersonville location will stay open through December. Tunney recently opened an Edgewater restaurant north of the Andersonville eatery.
The Andersonville building has been purchased by Newcastle Limited, a Chicago-based real estate firm that owns a number of Andersonville businesses.
The Ann Sather brand has long been a staple for Chicago's LGBT community. In addition to being gay-owned, its Lakeview restaurant fed those impacted by HIV/AIDS in the 1980s through service organization Open Hand Chicago (now the Vital Bridges Center on Chronic Care).
Tunney purchased the Ann Sather restaurant from its namesake in 1981.
