John Amaechi, the former NBA player who recently came out of the closet, will be the grand marshal of this year's Chicago 38th Annual Pride Parade on June 24.
Amaechi recently completed a book tour for his best-selling autobiography, Man in the Middle. In the book, he talks about his life, including his experiences in the NBA.
According to a PRIDEChicago press release, Amaechi told event coordinator Richard Pfeiffer that he is honored to be the grand marshal, and that he specifically wanted to be part of the Pride celebration in Chicago. He also indicated that he is looking forward to seeing more of the city during his visit.
As usual, the parade will commence at 12 p.m. from the corner of Halsted and Belmont, and will conclude on Cannon Drive in Lincoln Park. According to PRIDEChicago, more than one-half of the available 250 spots in the parade have already been filled, ahead of last year's pace.
