After nearly a decade as the executive director of the Chicago Abortion Fund ( CAF ), Gaylon Alcaraz is stepping down Dec. 31.
Former grantee and current deputy director Brittany Mostiller was slated to take the reigns as the new executive director effective Jan. 1, 2015.
In a statement, Alcaraz said, "In September 2015, as we celebrate the 30th anniversary of CAF, it is the perfect time for new leadership, energy, goals and direction. ... Abortion funds should not exist. Every womanif she needs itshould be able to access these services with or without insurance. Yet, in 2014 alone, we have seen outrageous, dangerous and paternalistic laws and restrictions that marginalize women even further."
Among Alcaraz's accomplishments was developing the "My Voice, My Choice" leadership group.
