Abby Wambach has played her last professional soccer match.
Wambach played in the United States' friendly against China Dec. 16 in New Orleansand was honored with a pre-game ceremony, Sports Illustrated reported. Fans chanted Wambach's name throughout, and she was subbed off for Christen Press in the 72nd minute to a standing ovation.
The 35-year-old Wambach, an out lesbian, finished with 255 international caps, a record 184 international goals, a World Cup title and two Olympic gold medals.
The only down side of the Dec. 16 match was the China prevailed 1-0; the U.S. had gone 104 home games ( 92-0-12 ) without losing since falling to Denmark 11 years ago.
