Keith Green joins AFC as federal affairs head

The AIDS Foundation of Chicago (AFC) has announced the appointment of Keith Green, founding member of the Chicago Black Gay Men's Caucus and former director of Project PrEPare, to the newly created post of director of federal affairs, according to a press release.

"We are excited and proud to have Keith join our organization," said AFC President/CEO David Ernesto Munar. "Keith's energy, passion and insight will be invaluable as we monitor the implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy."

Although he is new to the organization's staff, Green has been an active participant at AFC Lobby Days, and has played an instrumental role in securing the organization's continued support of the Chicago Black Gay Men's Caucus.

Diagnosed with HIV nearly 18 years ago, at the age of 17, Green has been involved in treatment advocacy and prevention for nearly a decade. His worked begin with Positively Aware magazine, where he served as associate editor for the treatment education journal while earning both his bachelor's and master's degrees in social work.

In his new role, Green—who started his new post Feb. 22—will be largely responsible for monitoring the implementation of the National HIV/AIDS Strategy and leading advocacy efforts to ensure that appropriations follow the epidemic. He will also coordinate the organization's advocacy efforts around pre-exposure prophylaxis.

Green also serves as an adjunct instructor in the social work program at Northeastern Illinois University, where he teaches Social Welfare Policy and Research Application in Social work.

ALMA has new immigrant coordinator

The Association of Latino Men for Action (ALMA) has hired Tania Unzueta to coordinate work with the organization's LGBT Immigrant Rights Project, a position made possible by a grant from Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP), according to a press release.

Unzueta's role is to support the work of a citywide coalition of organizations advocating for just immigration legislation that respects human rights, promotes economic opportunities, provides a path to legalization for the undocumented, and includes members of the LGBTQ community and same-sex families.

She is co-founder of the Immigrant Youth Justice League, and has organized with immigrant youth all over the country. Her work with the LGBTQ community includes organizing with the Chicago Dyke March Collective, being producer of the Spanish-language LGBTQ radio show Homofrecuencia and being a recipient of Windy City Times' 30 under 30 award.
