Redgi Woods is regularly shopping at estate sales, and even buying clothes direct from clients' closets. He's looking for vintage goods, the older the betterit's the quality fabric that he's after, so he can turn them new, tailored, and hip, with a little re-cutting, or design element.
"I'm a history buff, so I love how clothing affects history and how clothing affects the current-day, the mindset of people," Woods said.
His current work centers around the Randolph Street Market, where he is the in-house stylist and special events producer.
The Modern Vintage Chicago preview party at the Randolph Street Market for VIP shoppers, media, stylists and designers is Friday, April 19 (6-8 p.m.), and the Spring Jewelry, Fashion and Accessories Explosion is April 20-21 (10 a.m. - 5 p.m.) and, as the Modern Vintage Chicago website boasts, "dudes shop free all weekend."
Modern Vintage Chicago is "dedicated to Indie designers and artists like myselfto give them a platform to showcase their work," Woods said. "It's been amazing."
The April preview event will showcase more than 100 years of signature looks using pieces from the vendors at the weekends' festivities, with an emphasis on men's fashion, such as cufflinks, bowties, vests and more.
"It's crazy [busy] preparing for this [event,] but I can't picture myself doing anything else," Woods said. "It's going to be a dapper event; tons of surprises in store."
