Michael Feinstein, Nicole Cabell headline concert
From a Dominican University news release
2012-02-18

Nicole Cabell

River Forest, IL — The revered "Ambassador of the Great American Songbook" Michael Feinstein and "BBC Singer of the World" Nicole Cabell will team up for a powerhouse performance at Dominican University's 32nd Annual Trustees Benefit Concert and Gala on Saturday, March 10, 2012, at 5:00 p.m. in the Lund Auditorium on Dominican's Main Campus, 7900 Division Street, River Forest.

Feinstein, the multi-platinum-selling, five-time Grammy-nominee, is beloved throughout the United States for his consistently stellar vocal performance and tireless efforts to preserve and celebrate America's 20th Century popular songbook. He founded the Michael Feinstein Great American Songbook Initiative, dedicated to celebrating the art form and preserving it through educational programs, classes and competitions. His current public television special, "Michael Feinstein's American Songbook," takes viewers on his explorations into the work of songwriters such as George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington and Irving Berlin.

An accomplished duettist, he has shared his repertoirewith popular artists including Broadway legend Barbara Cook and Cheyenne Jackson from the hit TV show "Glee." With Cabell, the internationally renowned soprano who recently completed an acclaimed run as Pamina in the Chicago Lyric Opera's "The Magic Flute," Feinstein will complete a powerhouse duo.

Since being named the winner of the BBC Singer of the World Competition in 2005, Cabell has gone on to receive consummate critical and popular acclaim. Last year, she performed at the Royal Opera House, Metropolitan Opera and Cincinnati Opera, as well as teaming with orchestras from the NewYork Philharmonic, Boston Symphony and Chicago Symphony Orchestra. No stranger to the Great American Songbook, she was a featured soloist in Ravinia's AllGershwin Concert with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

During the concert intermission, longtime general director of the Lyric Opera, William Mason, will receive the university's Bravo Award for significant contributions to the arts. Mason now holds the title of general director emeritus of the Lyric, where he began working in 1962. He is credited with continuing the Opera's strong tradition of bringing the world's best performers to the Chicago stage as well as increasing the organization's attendance and revenues.

The superb acoustics of the Lund Auditorium, home of the Oak Park-River Forest Symphony Orchestra, offer the perfect backdrop for this potent pair. Concert tickets start at $25. Tickets to the gala, including the concert, cocktail reception and dinner, are $350. All proceeds benefit student scholarships at Dominican University.

For tickets and more information, contact the box office at (708) 488-5000 or visit dom.edu/pac.

Founded in 1901, Dominican University is a comprehensive, coeducational Catholic institution offering bachelor's degrees through the Rosary College of Arts and Sciences and master's degrees through the Graduate School of Library and Information Science, the Brennan School of Business, the School of Education, the Graduate School of Social Work and the School of Professional and Continuing Studies. The university also offers a doctoral degree in library and information science. In the 2012 issue of America's Best Colleges, U.S. News & World Report ranked Dominican University in the top 20 of Midwest master's level universities. The magazine also ranked Dominican as one of three Great Schools at a Great Price in Illinois.
