Legacy Live Series March 26 with Haifa House
2018-03-12

The Legacy Project and Center on Halsted present another in its Legacy LIVE Series of programs exploring how history is a living part of our daily lives. The program is Monday, March 26, 6:30 p.m., Center on Halsted, 3656 N. Halsted.

Together with their presenting partner, A Wider Bridge, Legacy Project will welcome representatives from Haifa Communities' House in Israel, who will share their efforts to preserve LGBTQ History from Muslim, Christian, and Jewish communities.

This collaborative endeavor shines a light on the struggles of members of the LGBTQ community from different backgrounds in a part of the world where such recognition is often repressed. By focusing on the similarity of their experiences, identities and faiths, the Haifa Communities' House emphasizes the intersectionality of LGBTQ people who have come together to create a shared safe space where they can work together, according to Legacy Project.

The opening reception will feature food and a cash bar. The program will begin with words of welcome by Chicago LGBTQ community leaders, followed by a brief multimedia presentation, then a panel discussion about the Haifa LGBTQ History Project currently underway and the many programs and services made possible because of the cooperative interfaith efforts behind the Haifa Communities' House. The presentation will be followed by a Q&A, then closing remarks. This event is free, but RSVP is requested.

Speakers:

Kelly Suzanne Saulsberry, Director of Policy and Outreach, Chicago Commission on Human Relations

Victor Salvo, Co-Founder and Executive Director, The Legacy Project

Shana Gee-Cohen, National Director of Programs and Development, A Wider Bridge

Panelists:

Dr. Gabriel Gomez ( Moderator ) | Professor of Information Studies, Chicago State University,
