Gerber/Hart Library's Making History/ Creating Community annual autumn benefit evening, will be Saturday, Oct. 2 at the Swedish American Museum Center, 5211 N. Clark, 7 p.m. Keynote speaker will be John D'Emilio, one of America's most distinguished historians of LGBT culture.

D'Emilio's most recent book, Lost Prophet: The Life and Times of Bayard Rustin, was nominated for a National Book Award in Non-Fiction for 2003. And, it was a New York Times Notable Book of the Year. Other books D'Emilio has either authored or edited include Sexual Politics, Sexual Communities: The Making of a Homosexual Minority in the United States, 1940-1970, and, Intimate Matters: A History of Sexuality in America.
