State Street, 7 p.m. They will present $9,000 in scholarships to students who have made significant contributions toward advancing GLBTQ visibility and equality in local K-12 schools. They will also be offering their first Safe School Award, honoring a school that is creating a safe learning environment for all students and staff.

Study: Half of Young Americans to Get Sex Diseases: According to a report issued by two nonprofit sexual and youth health groups (Advocates for Youth and Alan Guttmacher Institute), half of all young Americans will get a sexually transmitted disease by the age of 25. The reason for the high numbers can be attributed perhaps to the fact that today's young adults are ignorant about protection or embarrassed to ask for it.
The College Republican National Committee Chairman, Eric Hoplin, unleashed a vicious attack against the Log Cabin Republicans, a group that considers itself 'the nation's leading voice for fairness, inclusion, and tolerance in the GOP.' Hoplin criticized the Log Cabin group for what he described as 'their efforts to stab the President in the back.' Hoplin targeted the group's recent criticism of President Bush's proposed Federal Marriage Amendment and criticized the group for their efforts to 'seek to advance a single issue agenda.'
Prior to the Senate Judiciary Committee's hearing on the Federal Marriage Amendment, teenage children of gay and lesbian families, a pediatrician and other advocates will speak out against the proposed constitutional amendment that seeks to write discrimination into the Constitution. The news conference was held Tuesday, March 23 in the Russell Senate Office Building, Room 236, in D.C.
'Some lawmakers want to see discrimination added to the Constitution,' said Christopher E. Anders, an ACLU Legislative Counsel. 'But such a measure not only harms the fabric of our founding document—it also hurts real families and real children.'
Gender-nonconforming, transgender, and intersex people and their allies at all Indiana University campuses are being sought to complete a survey sponsored by the Indiana University Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender Alumni Association (IU GLBTAA). The Free Times of South Carolina reports that USC student Zachary Scott became the first openly gay student to be elected student body president at any major college or university in South Carolina.

A Palm Springs couple has joined with the University of Maryland to help strengthen the academic foundation of a fledgling program in LGBT Studies and also assist students experiencing financial hardships due to sexual orientation. Peter Rodler and James Wood will bequeath their estate to fund an endowment of at least $1 million that will support the country's first endowed professorship in LGBT Studies.
