The Archdiocesan Gay and Lesbian Outreach (AGLO-Chicago), which has held a weekly welcoming, open, and celebratory GLBTQ Roman Catholic mass on Sunday evenings at 690 W. Belmont for the past 23 years, announces its first open search for the position of AGLO Choir Director. AGLO-Chicago is one of only a few parish communities in the world that celebrates and affirms our community's orientations and identities, while providing our community with an opportunity to retain the rich traditions and culture of the mass.
The Choir Director position requires knowledge of the Roman Catholic liturgy and conducting training and experience. GLBTQ candidates are encouraged. The Choir Director works closely with the Music Director/organist, Director of Liturgy, and cantors; leads two rehearsals per month in Lakeview on the first and third Sunday evenings, 5:45-6:45; and conducts mass following these rehearsals, from 7:00-8:00 p.m. The position pays a per mass stipend.
The AGLO choir consists of primarily volunteers, representing the diversity of our community. Candidates for the position should have experience and be comfortable working with members of the GLBTQA community, as well as with the range of parish volunteers. As the liturgy will change in November, the Choir Director will need to be comfortable and effective with teaching new music to a mixed group of professionals and volunteers.
Interested candidates should submit a cover letter, resume or curriculum vitae, and references to the Search Committee at arosenquist@aglochicago.org .
Contact: Amy Rosenquist, Director of Social Justice, AGLO-Chicago arosenquist@aglochicago.org
