Cory Jobe, an openly gay Republican, was elected alderman of the Ward 6 in Springfield on April 5, according to the State Journal-Register.
With incumbent Ald. Mark Mahoney not seeking re-election, Jobe won with ease, although Kent DeLay (a Democrat who is also gay) and Cameron Counts (another Republican) had write-in campaigns.
Jobe, 37, is deputy chief of staff for state Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka. He is also president of the MacArthur Boulevard Business Association.
In Evanston, Richard Rykhus was elected to a term on the school board, according to the Evanston Review. Rykhus captured a seat with 81.7 percent of the vote. Keith Terry, the board's president, ended up fourthdenying him a second term.
On his campaign website ( richardfordistrict65.com ), Rykhus' biography states that he married husband Carlos in 2005; they have a 6-year-old son, Ty'rith. The top three vote-gettersRykhus, incumbent Katie Bailey and Eileen Buddewill be sworn in May 2.
