Star Gaze, Chicago's only remaining full-time lesbian bar, will be closing its doors on New Year's Eve.

Early in 2008, Lost & Found, the city's longest-running lesbian bar and actually the oldest in the United States, also closed down. ( Owner Ava Allen didn't want a lot of attention to the closing. ) Lesbians do still have options at mixed gay and lesbian bars as well as floating women's parties at straight and gay clubs, but Star Gaze provided the last full-time mainly women's space. The bar was inducted into Chicago's Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2006. The owners are Mamie Lake and Dustin "Dusty" Ferman.
