Malawi official speaks out
2009-10-01
In Malawi, Secretary for Nutrition, HIV and AIDS Mary Shawa has said that recognizing gay rights is key to being successful in the fight against AIDS.

"There is a need to incorporate a human rights approach in the delivery of HIV and AIDS services to such risk groups like men who have sexual intercourse with men if we have to fight AIDS," Shawa said at a conference about the disease—marking the first time a government official has discussed gay issues in public.
