Black pride had a twist for Chicago's African-American LGBT community this year, because, in a rare development, there were two pride celebrations over the Fourth of July weekend. ( Apparently, this also happened several years ago. ) Recent disputes led to a group of individuals leaving Windy City Black Pride ( WCBP ) to form Chicago Windy City Black Pride ( CWCBP ) . Among CWCBP's activities were a poetry slam, a media reception, an LGBT author reception and its official celebration at South Shore Cultural Center. Not to be outdone, WCBP held a VIP reception, forums ( see the Bobby Blake interview on page 18 ) , multiple parties and a fashion benefit as well as other events.
