On June 28, the Chicago Frontrunners/Frontwalkers held its annual Proud to Run races. Over 800 individuals pre-registered for the event, according to the organizations' Web site.
The event included a 5K and 10K run, and a 2-mile walk. An awards ceremony followed the races. Eric Alva, the openly gay former marine and Iraq War veteran who served as grand marshal of Sunday's Pride Parade, congratulated the victors. ( Alva is a runner even after losing a leg in combat. ) Winners included Chicago's Brad Zoller in the 5K run and Bensenville's Joseph Roeges in the 10K division.
