Over 20 LGBT and anti-war organizations are planning to protest the May 18 Chicago appearance of General Peter Pace, the head of the Joint Chiefs of Staff who described homosexuality as 'immoral' in an interview with The Chicago Tribune.
Pace is scheduled to speak on behalf of the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business at 11 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, 151 E. Wacker.
'So let's just see if we've got this straight. A general who has presided over the killing of hundreds of thousands is calling gays 'immoral,'' said Andy Thayer of the Gay Liberation Network ( GLN ) in a press release from some of the protest organizers. 'Is this guy attempting to become the Imus of the American military?'
Some of the co-sponsors of the protest include the Chicago Coalition Against War & Racism; Chicago Area CodePINK; Sankofa Way Spiritual Services, Inc.; The National Lawyers Guild; and GLN.
There is also an online petition at unaskpace.googlepages.com to ask the school to cancel Pace's appearance.
