Being a 'shock jock,' Don Imus is used to offending peoplebut his latest mistake could cost him his career.
The controversial personality is in hot water again after referring to members of Rutgers women's basketball team as 'nappy-headed hos' on his radio show last week. ( The team, which has eight African-Americans and is coached by another, C. Vivian Stringer, recently lost the national championship game to Tennessee. ) He has apologized, but several notable individualsincluding the Rev. Jesse Jackson and the Rev. Al Sharptonwould like to see Imus fired.
( This is certainly not Imus' first misstep. According to BrightLightsFilm.com, Imus twisted 'Brokeback Mountain' into 'Fudgepack Mountain.' )
A spokeswoman for MSNBC, which broadcasts Imus' morning show, called his statements 'deplorable' and said that the corporation is looking into the situation. On April 9, CBS Radio and MSNBC announced that they were suspending Imus for two weeks, starting April 16.
Earlier on April 9, Imus appeared on Sharpton's radio show, according to CNN.com . Sharpton labeled the Imus' comments as 'racist' and once again called for his axing. 'Our agenda is to be funny and sometimes we go too far. And this time we went way too far,' Imus saidbut once again raised Sharpton's ire by saying that 'I can't get anyplace with you people.'
