Welcome to Chechnya 9:00pm
Gripping exploration of the work of rescuing Chechen survivors of the LGBTQ purge there, but reveals the indefatigable courage of both the survivors and members of the Russia LGBT Network who extricated them from Chechnya. And of course, Rainbow Railroad provided critical assistance in bringing many of those featured in the film to safety in welcoming countries.
Free virtual panel in cooperation with our partners, Amnesty International and GLAAD, featuring David France, Rainbow Railroad Executive Director Kimahli Powell, and Maxim Lapunov, a survivor of the purge whose compelling story is significantly featured in the film. The panel will be on Thursday evening, July 16th, 6-7 pm. CT. You can register https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/welcome-to-chechnya-beyond-the-film-tickets-111695387912 . If you don't have HBO register to get instructions on how to watch the film for free.
"Welcome to Chechnya" has gotten rave reviews at the Sundance and Berlin film festivals and beyond, so all of us are very hopeful that the film will bring worldwide attention to the epidemic of anti-LGBTQ violence and persecution occuring in so many countries.
