OPALGA+ Friends Back Room Stories 7:00pm - 8:30pm
Featured tellers: Megan Wells, Jim Kelly, Mike Speller, Errol McLendon and Margaret Burk
Megan Wells has been a full-time professional touring storyteller for 25 years. She has been featured several times at National Storytelling Festival in Jonesborough. Tenn. Megan has a vast repertoire of traditional tales, multi-cultural myths, historical events, as well as personal and true stories. Perhaps, her daughters say it best, "Mom's a storytelling jukebox. Put a quarter 'n pick your favorite!"
Jim Kelly is a toe-in-the water story teller, but wildly enthusiastic about the spoken word. He and his husband Bruce have been together in Oak Park for over 30 years. Jim has had a long-time association with the Peace Corps, first as a Volunteer fresh out of college. His last career of 25 years was with an Oak Park company that managed training centers for preparing Peace Corps Volunteers for service.
Mike Speller is a veteran actor and storyteller. He's been featured at Wisconsin and Illinois story festivals. This year, Mike is slated to perform some scary stuff at the Indianapolis and Elgin Fringe Festivals.
Errol McLendon is an actor, director, writer and storyteller. Errol is the author of the soon to be published series of young adult books - The Foulbrood Alliance Quadrilogy. Errol lives in Berwyn with his actress wife, Wendye Clarendon, currently in Alabaster at 16th Street Theatre and his dog-child, Cooper and his cat-child, Tucker.
Margaret Burk left a career in arts administration to return to her first love - the spoken word. She performs throughout the Chicago area. Margaret produces Back Room Stories and co-hosts Do Not Submit Oak Park, a monthly Storytelling Open Mic at the Eastgate Cafe & Bistro.
