TGNC Access to Surgical Services 8:00am - 12:00am
Howard Brown Health's Center for Education, Research and Advocacy (ERA) will host the 2019-2020 gender-affirming learning series "Holistic Care for TGNC People: Updates on Social, Medical, and Trauma-informed Care Continuum."
The series includes "Transgender and Gender Nonconforming (TGNC) Access to Surgical Services: Community Concerns and Surgical Readiness" on Friday, Sept. 13, 8 a.m.-noon, at Malcolm X College, 1900 W. Jackson Blvd. There will also be the webinar "Recent Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) Findings that Support TGNC Patients" on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, 8-9 a.m.
This series aims to make space for ongoing discussion on key topics in gender-affirming care, such as surgical navigation, developing trauma-informed systems of care, and increasing access to gender-affirming care.
The Sept. 13 seminar will include:
-The keynote presentation "Healing Historical Traumas," 8-9:30 a.m., with Trauma Stewardship Institute founder Laura Van Dernoot Lipsky as the presenter;
-A community member discussion at 9:45-10:45 a.m., with Howard Brown Health Manager of External Relations Channyn Lynne Parker as the moderator; and
-A surgery discussion at 11 a.m.-noon, with Howard Brown Health TGNC Community Health Manager Trisha Lee Holloway and Director of Behavioral Health Kelly Ducheny, PsyD, Sr. as moderators, and Weiss Hospital Director of Center for Gender Confirmation Loren Schechter, MD, FACS, and Brownstein & Crane reconstructive urologist Richard A. Santucci, MD, FACS, as panelists.
