Slo 'Mo Party's "The Coven Classic"
9:00pm

A night of women, nonbinary & trans powered magic presented by Slo 'Mo Party hosted by Kristen Kaza & Jen Delos Reyes at Sleeping Village in Avondale. Immerse yourself in Akenya & her coven of all women & trans musicians covering witches & b!#@hes from Grace Jones to Nina Simone, sensory illusions & magic performed by Jeanette Andrews, and the sensual, sonic experience of Audio Jack who will close the evening with the iconic Slo 'Mo dance party. Start your evening with treats on Sleeping Village's patio sold by queer women owned catering company Midwest Methods and tarot services from Alia Walston. Doors are at 8PM with the concert beginning at 9:30PM. Tickets are $20 and partial proceeds benefit Chicago Volunteer Doulas, a birth justice organization providing comprehensive doula support with a focus on vulnerable communities in the Chicagoland area. Chicago pianist, composer, and vocalist Akenya has performed with Saba, Smino, Chance the Rapper and Noname, whom she served as Music Director & opener on the Telefone tour. She and her band of musicians will perform sensual and spooky songs including the Cranberries' Zombie, Nina Simone's Four Women, a slew of Stevie Nicks songs and more. A bevy of Chicago artists will guest perform including Ohmme, Maggie Kubley (formerly of Celine Neon), Lindsey Charles of The Cell Phones and rapper duo Mother Nature. A witch themed costume contest will be judged by the "Empress of Chicago" Darling Shear, Creator of OTV web series "Brujos" Ricardo Gamboa and veteran stylist of Kit This Brandon Fein. Slo 'Mo is a party that unites people of all identities, bodies and expressions through the celebration of slow jams and LGBTQ+ community and takes place third Thursdays at the Whistler and around Chicago at various venues.
