The City that Werqs A History of Chicago's Drag Revolutionaries
6:30pm - 9:30pm

While Chicago has the reputation as one of the most segregated cities in the country, the drag scene in Chicago has always held within it a diversity of performance and style. From anarchists and vaudeville queens at the Dil Pickle Club and the legendary Finnie's Balls to the racially integrated club scenes of the 1960's to the rise of the Miss Continental competition in the 1980's and into the vibrant scene of today. Chicago is the city that works, because Chicago is the city that werqs. Following the opening will be a Drag Show at Jackhammer Complex (6406 N Clark St.) at 9:30 pm. Performer list is being finalized. Tickets and additional information. #MyDragWerqs Show us your drag! Our upcoming exhibit "The City that Werqs" is all about the history of Chicago's diverse drag culture. We want you to be part of it. Using the hastags #MyDragWerqs and #TheCityThatWerqs, share an instagram video of yourself in drag (or getting ready) and let us know what drag means to you. Your video may be featured in the online portion of the exhibit.
