Chicago Gay Men's Chorus presents Under the Big Top 8:00pm
Spring show, three locations, three dates will feature animals, acrobats, aerialists, music, 150 chorus members, six dance numbers, over 30 dancers, five circus performers, and the smell of fresh popcorn permeating the theatre, Under the Big Top promises to be one of CGMC's biggest and most entertaining shows to date. Artistic Director James J. Morehead shared his hopes for the show saying, "I hope the audience leaves having experienced the circus in a new way, a familiar way, and maybe a slightly LGBTQ+ way." Musical selections will include songs from popular musicals Barnum, Side Show, and The Greatest Showman along with songs from Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Billy Joel, and more.
The spirit of the circus will come to life as as live circus performers take the stage to show off their daring and magnificent talents. Performers include: Ray Gunn with Vertical Sideshow ( aerialist, cube act ), Molly Plunk ( wirewalker, contortionist ), Aerial Emery ( hula hoop juggler ), Sally Marvel ( sword swallower ), and Queerelle ( pincushion act, Saturday only ). "It has been great planning each of the specialty numbers for our guest circus performers," said Morehead. "The singers are working super hard to make this the best show yet."
Under the Big Top is not just about entertainment and showmanship but a heartfelt and powerful message of acceptance, inclusiveness, and celebration of self. "Once we've stripped the circus of its exploitative issues, we are left with lots of talented acts and beautiful music to encourage us to be ourselves and let others do the same," said Morehead. All walks of life are welcome at CGMC's performances as the chorus continues to stand firm in their commitment to equality and inclusion of all people.
This circus spectacle is a show for all ages! "Children can come and see this version of the circus," said Morehead. "Adults can come remember the circus from when they were children...all with the special CGMC touch!" Tickets are on sale now so don't miss it!

ABOUT CHICAGO GAY MEN'S CHORUS
The Chicago Gay Men's Chorus ( CGMC ) has been an integral part of Chicago's cultural and gay communities since 1983. For more than three decades, the chorus has entertained audiences across the continent with innovative musical programming exploring everything from love to politics to the sometimes fabulous, sometimes challenging world of being gay; often all at the same time. Our always-memorable performances have included original musical revues; full-length book musicals; traditional choral concerts and intimate cabaret presentations; all punctuated with our signature joyous irreverence.
Most recently, CGMC represented Chicago's LGBT community at Mayor Rahm Emanuel's second-term inauguration ceremony. The chorus proudly sang "America the Beautiful" for the Illinois Marriage Equality Act bill-signing ceremony and was the featured guest choral performer for the star-studded concert, Broadway Rocks, with the Grant Park Music Festival in 2011. Chicago Gay Men's Chorus was inducted into the Chicago Gay and Lesbian Hall of Fame in 2001 and currently has four cd-recordings available. CGMC has performed the National Anthem multiple times at world-famous Wrigley Field and for the WNBA Chicago Sky and Chicago's professional soccer team, Chicago Fire.
