Merchild: the Play
7:30pm

by Aline Lathrop Directed by JD Caudill. Like many little girls, Adam dreams of being a mermaid and marrying a prince. But Adam was born a boy. Or so everyone else seems to think. When reality is not to Adam's liking he retreats into a fairytale winning Prince Eric's love, despite a mermaid tail. Meanwhile Adam's parents are pulled in all directions as they grapple with keeping their son safe or giving Adam the freedom to be who she is. Featuring the entire original 16th Street Theater cast from Season Eight 2015. "intelligent and open-hearted play… compelling… Peyton Shaffer steals the show with her remarkable performance" - Recommended in Chicago Reader by Jack Helbig "Through thoughtful staging and skillful acting, this production succeeds in telling a complex tale beautifully." - Christopher Kidder-Mostrom, New City This event is open to 16th Street's 100 Club Members and Center on Halsted guests only. We strongly recommend public transportation as street parking is challenging and garages are expensive. Aline Lathrop was 16th Street's 2015 playwright-in-residence. Her newest play The Hero's Wife will premiere at 16th Street in July 2018 as part of Season Eleven. This play is a part of Pop Up Series for ALL IN 100 Club and 100 Club (choose 3 Pop Ups)
